Emily the sock monkey and a fight with technology

Meet Emily the latest sock monkey i made earlier this week.  I added a little tutu and hat to make her even cuter.  i do love making sock creatures as they are so easy and look quite effective.  If you want a copy of the basic sock monkey tutorial just drop me an e-mail to scratchy.cat@hotmail.co.uk.

Next is an apology for all those who are waiting for a tutorial on my owl cushions.  Technology is challenging me (no surprise there!).  The instructions are all typed and ready to publish it is trying to get the templates loaded into a format that everyone can print off which is proving tricky. Though to be fair i have only had a little play around as i have been a bit manic this week.  Fingers crossed i suss it soon and as soon as i do i'll post about it i promise.

Ipod case

Today's post is on how to make an ipod case.  This little project is really easy to do and only takes about 45 minutes (ok less if you aren't as slow as me!).
I have been meaning to use this funky fabric for a while and I'm glad i did.
Ok want to make one.  First lay your ipod and earphones (rolled up) flat on the floor next to each other and measure the height and width then add at least an inch on each side i.e. 2" to the height and 2" to the width.  Then cut out 2 pieces of outer fabric and 2 of inner fabric. I used interfacing to make mine a bit sturdier. Next with right sides facing together sew round 3 sides of the outer fabric pieces leaving the top side open.   Turn out the right way. Then take lining pieces and do the same leaving a small gap along the bottom edge (about 1"). Take a small piece of ribbon and thread it through a lobster clasp keyring. Take the outer fabric and place it inside the lining fabric and take the 2 ribbon ends and place between the lining and the outer fabric making sure the keyring is facing down and the ends of the ribbon are facing out of the bag.  Then sew along the top edge right the way round.  Now turn right way out through the small gap in the lining at the bottom.  I then added ribbon to the front with fabric glue.

Still waiting to make an owl cushion?  The tutorial should be ready tomorrow hopefully x x

Fathers Day ideas

I thought i would post some pics of some of the Fathers Day bits and bobs i have been making up for my Folksy shop recently.  It might give you all some inspiration and make you want to have a go at some of them.  All my projects are simple (a bit like me sometimes!) so what are you waiting for - go create!.

I think i will make another of these so that Miss G can give one to Mr G for Fathers Day.

The crazy owl fabric returns to make this ipod case that fits both ipod and earphones in.  I got the fabric from fabricrehab if you fancy getting some.  Warning that site is seriously addictive!!
I have been meaning to use this Giraffe fabric for a while so though a mobile phone holder would be a good start.

 Back to my wood addiction!!
Ok Edna isn't for Fathers Day but couldn't help showing you all my latest cute owl cushion.  I'm working on the tutorial so should have it uploaded at some point this weekend.

Tweet Twoo

At the moment i am loving owls! There are so many owl themed items around and they look so cute!.  i decided that i would have a go at making my own Owl pattern and creating a cushion from it.  The thought being that if it goes ok i'd share the pattern with you guys (yeah i'm good like that!).  Anyhoo what do you think?

I am quite please with the results but still want to do a bit of tinkering. Do you want me to share my pattern and do a tutorial for this cushion?  If you do i'll give it a whirl. let me know!..

All things smelly

Today's post is about a couple of new crafts i have tried out recently.  The first is candle making.  This craft has been on my list to try for years and i never seem to get round to it. Anyway after some fab advice off the lovely Lisa over at Kandipandi's pad i bit the bullet bought a kit of ebay containing soy wax, colouring, fragrance oil and melt trays and made some wax melts.  I have to say i can't believe how easy it was and now I'm addicted!!.

I also made some heart shaped melts using a silicone ice cube tray.
At weekend we went to visit my best friend in Kent.  i always like to take something homemade along so i decided to make some hand scrub.  Such an easy project it will only take you 5 minutes to rustle it up.
If you want to make some you will need 2 1/2 cups of sugar (i mixed brown and white), 1 cup of sunflower oil and 4 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Mix it all together in a big bowl and then put into a jar.

I made this jar by taking an empty plastic jar which had a horrible red lid and added scrapbook paper to the lid then stuck a ribbon around the edge. then i decorated a wooden tag with paper and wrote on it in marker.  i made a paper flower and added a brad to the centre and stuck on the top of the tag then tied with raffia tape.

and the winner is.....

Remember the giveaway i was hosting for my first anniversary well i put all the names in a hat and let little Miss Glover pick a winner last week.  Since then i have been meaning to do a post about it and haven't had chance as we have been away for the weekend and life has just generally got in the way any way sorry for the delay and the winner is .............................................. Ali!!.  Well done lovi i will contact you via your blog but if you happen to read this first would you e-mail me at scratchy.cat@hotmail.co.uk with you contact details so i can post off your goodies.

Random bits and bobs

Whilst flicking through the photo’s on my digital camera I noticed lots of crafty pics that I have taken and not had chance to post about so today’s post is going to be featured random bits and bobs I have made recently.

Next is a couple of things I made for Mr G’s birthday. The first is a manly necklace which ended up turning out better than I expected. I also made the bag to put it in…

Then I got 10 chocolates and a wooden box and created “10 things I love” about him. On the back of each chocolate was something I love about him. You get the idea!.
I also bought him guitar lessons so I made a voucher up with the details on and the lesson times and venue etc.

Next up is a set of glass jars filled with chocolates for Lili’s teachers at Easter. Decorated with wooden chicks covered in scrapbook paper.

The next two pics are of bracelets I made for my mum and mum in law for Mothers day (I told you these were random makes!. I have never made bracelets before so this was my first attempt definitely room for improvement but not as bad I thought!.

There are loads more to show but I won’t bore you all in one go I’ll save them for another post :-)

Fathers Day Bookmark

Well you all know me by now! Once an event or season has passed i swiftly move onto the next!.  So Easter and the Royal Wedding have gone and now i'm onto Fathers Day gifts (when is it by the way?!).  This bookmark is an easy project to whip together and can look great if you embellish it well.  I used an oversized luggage tag some organza ribbon a large metal brad and some scrapbook papers and this is what i made....

How cute is this metal brad. perfect for Fathers Day (don't ask where i got it though because for the life of me i can't remember!!)
